Karen Garland, Clark Creeks Teacher of the Year and a CCSD 2020 Teacher of the Year finalist, has received multiple honors.

The Georgia Youth Science and Technology Centers recognized her as a 2020 Georgia STEM Scholar Award, and the Governors School Leadership Academy selected her as a member of the inaugural cohort of its Teacher Leader Support Program.

The Georgia STEM Scholar Awards recognize outstanding efforts to engage and improve student learning in STEM disciplines. Award recipients receive a $500 grant to purchase STEM education materials for their classroom and free admission to the Centers Summer STEM Institute professional development conference. 

The Georgia Teacher Leader Support Program provides the opportunity for select educators to further develop their teacher-leader skills through professional development and on-site coaching with individualized support and feedback.

In addition to these honors, Garland was named the Georgia Science Teachers Association 2020 Teacher of the Year for Elementary Schools and the Council of Outdoor Learning Chair for the Environmental Education Alliance of Georgia.
