2026 Legislative Session Recap: Delivering for Georgia Families and Communities

The 2026 legislative session was defined by a clear focus on strengthening Georgia's economy, supporting working families, and investing in the long-term success of our communities. From tax relief to public safety and education, this year's legislative achievements reflect a commitment to keeping Georgia the best place to live, work, and raise a family.

A cornerstone of this session was meaningful tax relief for Georgians. With the passage of Senate Bill 33, we delivered targeted property tax relief to help homeowners manage rising costs and stay rooted in their communities. Building on that effort, House Bill 463 reduces the state income tax rate to 3.99%, putting more money back into the pockets of hardworking citizens. Additionally, House Bill 1000 provides a $1 billion income tax rebate — direct, immediate relief for families and individuals across the state. To further ease financial pressures, House Bill 1199 implements a 60-day suspension of the gas tax, offering timely support as fuel prices fluctuate.

Addressing affordability extended beyond taxes. House Bill 1344 tackles rising insurance costs through comprehensive reforms aimed at stabilizing premiums and improving access to coverage. House Bill 1193, the Georgia Early Literacy Act of 2026, reinforces the foundation of reading proficiency, recognizing that early literacy is critical to lifelong success. House Bill 1009 establishes a distraction-free learning environment by prohibiting cell phone use in classrooms, empowering teachers and improving student focus. Complementing these efforts, House Bill 1123 expands access to after-school care, providing families with safe, supportive options while helping students continue learning beyond the classroom.

Public safety and support for those who serve were also front and center. Senate Bill 452 strengthens retirement benefits for state law enforcement officers, recognizing their dedication and sacrifice. Similarly, Senate Bill 143 enhances retirement security for Georgia firefighters, while House Bill 1086 provides additional protections to ensure their safety on the job.
