Though the official first day of fall was last month, October reveals the season in all its glory — trees will reach their peak color before ultimately releasing their leaves to the cool autumn breezes. If we're lucky, we'll get to watch those leaves swirl down gracefully from the sky during the golden hour, as we round the corner of a winding road or trail.
If you've been feeling "stuck" lately, spending time outside among those majestic trees is often a great way to clear your head, as you take in the spectacular surrounding views or focus on your breath during a brisk walk. Check out pages 20-21 for this month's "Fantastic Fall Hikes" feature, which shares some great local options that vary in distance and difficulty, so there is something to suit all fitness levels.
And remember, if you are feeling like life is stagnant right now, you always have a choice. You may not always like the options, but as motivational speaker and author Gabrielle Bernstein wisely pointed out, "You are not stuck. You are just afraid."
So, while you're temporarily standing still, take a moment to marvel at the big, beautiful world around you — then use the time to weigh your options, pick a path, and move forward into something that may be a little scary, but also exciting and full of opportunity. Get out of your own way and "make like a tree and leave."
Happy fall, y'all!
