Sequoyah High School names Allen Carden as new Boys Basketball Head Coach

Sequoyah High School has named Allen Carden as its next Head Boys Basketball Coach.

Coach Carden, a NCCAA All-American First Team member and whose 30-year head coaching record includes multiple State Tournament berths, was selected from a pool of more than 50 applicants who applied for the position.

Principal Elliott Berman said Coach Carden was the best choice for more than his experience, knowledge of the game and his winning record.

Coach Carden was also selected because of his values, his maturity, his ability to motivate student-athletes and develop their athletic skills, his ability to build positive relationships and his commitment to support SHSs entire athletic program, said Principal Berman, who added that Coach Berman will teach physical education classes.  Sequoyah is happy to welcome Coach Carden and his family to the Hickory Flat community.

An All-State selection in Football, Basketball and Baseball his Senior year, the Tunnel Hill, Ga. native played college basketball at Tennessee Temple University.  During his college career, Coach Carden and his teammates amassed a 112-24 record and won a National Championship.

Coach Carden began his coaching career at the collegiate level and went on to great success on the high school level, with multiple State Tournament appearances in Florida including a 2009 State Runner-up finish, with a record of 30-4, for the Clearwater (Fla.) High School boys basketball team. He led Lassiter Highs team to a 69-44 record and two State Tournament berths, and, most recently, has served as the Sprayberry High School Head Girls Basketball Coach for the past two seasons

He and his wife, Tammy, have four children, all of whom are involved in basketball.  His eldest sons, Cam and Cory, are both former collegiate basketball players who are now high school basketball coaches.  His son, Cody, is currently playing at Webber International University, and his daughter, Colby, is a high school basketball player.
