Meet Angela Thompson: Cantons New Director of Communications and Outreach Angela is charged with revamping the Citys website, social media platforms, newsletters, reports and overseeing the branding strategy currently underway. She will be providing assistance to the City regarding communication between departments, functions and programs of the City and the citizens, customers and stakeholders of the City. She will also oversee the Citys marketing and tourism functions as well as its Hotel Excise Tax programs, connections with City commissions, boards and authorities.Angela brings experience in municipal communications from the City of Milton along with special events and project management experience in that community. Prior to that, Angela served as the Main Street Director in Gainesville, providing another layer of local government experience in communications, marketing, special events and community relations.

Public Preview Scheduled for Woodstocks New Amphitheatre Woodstocks Amphitheater at City Center will be open for a public preview event on Tuesday, October 25th, from 6:30-8:30 pm. This sneak peek will allow visitors to tour the grounds and facility, and ask questions of staff, officials, architects and builders. The first event in the new space will be the Woodstocks Halloween KidsFest on October 31st, from 3:00-7:00 pm. The Grand Opening Celebration and first concert (Mark Wills with opening act, the Thomas Fountain Band) will be on November 12th, at 7:30 pm. This 2.7-acre expansion to the Park at City Center includes grassy-tiered seating. The Woodstock Summer Concert Series resumes in May of 2017. With an estimated seating capacity of 6,000-7,000, music lovers should have plenty of room to enjoy all events. A new amphitheater website will be unveiled soon!
Youth Enters Cantons 2016 Farmers Market Pie Contest Each of the contestants of the Canton Farmers Market Pie Contest were asked to provide any special information about their entry. Jack Bishop Fords recipe was not the special part of his entry; it was the fact that hes only 4 years old. When his family asked if he wanted to enter the pie contest, Jack was so excited to enter! He researched recipes on YouTube with his grandmother and settled on a delicious, fresh strawberry and blueberry pie.
Teen Leadership Applicants Sought The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that they will be accepting applications for the Teen Leadership Cherokee Class of 2017 until Wednesday, October 19, 2016. Students must be in 10th grade to apply. Teen Leadership Cherokee will offer a series of class sessions, exploring topics such as community involvement, personal development, team building and educational and economic responsibility. The young men and women selected to participate in Teen Leadership Cherokee must attend school in Cherokee County and/or live in Cherokee County, demonstrate outstanding qualities as potential leaders and possess the desire to affect change in their community. Each class will be representative of the diversity within Cherokee County, including students from the Cherokee County School District along with private or home-schooled students. Participants academic achievements, active participation in school functions, membership in other organizations and responsibilities, such as working after school, will be reviewed during the selection process. CDTC Collects Items to Donate to the Holly Springs PD Cherokee Day Training Center (CDTC) collected crackers, water, hand sanitizer, dog biscuits, thank you letters, bracelets and various other non-perishable items to donate to the Holly Springs Police Department in a gesture of gratitude for the service of local police and their canine officers. After the items were collected, they were brought in by a team of men and women with developmental disabilities as a community service effort. Officers were given to-go bags to keep with them in the field to snack on during a busy shift. The delivery team was met by several officers, including Chief Ken Ball, and was shown appreciation for their efforts. Cantons Outstanding Teen Abby Hayman is the first representative of Canton as Outstanding Teen. She recently competed in the Miss Georgia Outstanding Teen pageant (in conjunction with the Miss Georgia pageant) in Columbus, GA. Abby won $500 in scholarship funds for the overall photogenic award and the spirit (congeniality) awards out of 49 teens. She was also recently named Girl Talks volunteer of the year.
Reinhardt University Welcomes Newly Elected Trustee Cherokee County Chick-fil-A owner/operator Kevin Williams has been elected to the Reinhardt University Board of Trustees. Williams is the owner/operator of two Chick-fil-A locations in Canton. He brings experience in business and business development as well as in nonprofit service including his previous role as chairman of the Chick-fil-A Atlanta Marketing Board and his service with the Cherokee County Educational Foundation. Williams has been a supporter of Reinhardt by offering experiences to students including a trip to Chick-fil-A headquarters in Atlanta that he recently helped facilitate for RU business students.
